Initial action by a senior manager

The senior manager must not investigate the matter by interviewing the accused person, the child or potential witnesses, they must:

  • Obtain written details of the allegation, signed and dated by the person receiving the complaint, or allegation
  • Record any other information in relation to time, dates and location of incident(s) and names of any potential witnesses
  • Record discussions about the child and/or member of staff, any decisions made, and the reasons for those decisions
  • Countersign and date the written record

If the allegation meets any of the criteria in paragraphs 1.8 the senior manager must report it to the LADO within 1 working day.

If a concern or an allegation requiring immediate attention is received outside normal office hours the senior manager must consult immediately with the Children’s Social Care emergency duty team or local police and also ensure that the LADO is informed the next working day.
