Procedures

Safeguarding is the process of protection children from abuse or neglect, preventing impairment of their health and development, and ensuring they are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care that enables children to have optimum life chances and enter adulthood successfully. It includes both child protection and supporting children and families in need.

These procedures need to be used in conjunction with individual organisations guidelines. When you are in doubt about what you should do you need to consult with the safeguarding specialists within your organisation in addition to consulting these procedures.

If you have not used these procedures before you may find it useful to read the section on 'How to use the Procedures'

Equality and Diversity Statement for NSCB

All members of the Safeguarding Children Board will actively ensure an appropriate response with regard to safeguarding all children and young people, whilst recognising and supporting issues of Equality and diversity.

There is no perfect way to bring up a child and approaches will differ according to culture or class and so on, but there is a threshold of what is acceptable behaviour.

Discrimination on the grounds of race, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, disability, age, pregnancy or any other unjustifiable criterion will not be tolerated.

We are opposed to all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination (including harassment of any kind) and will take appropriate action wherever instances of discrimination and harassment occur.

We will work with our partners to develop effective procedures and policies to combat intentional and unintentional discrimination and to share good practice.

We are committed to helping our children and young people grow and develop their potential and identity in a way which helps them understand, respect and embrace being part of Newcastle as a City and be the best they can be.
